A sex offender with a long record of crimes against children has moved out of the British Columbia community of Merritt after receiving threats from local residents.
Get out of town. David Caza, 42, moved to Merritt last week after finishing a month sentence for his latest conviction, possessing child pornography.
Then the RCMP detachment serving the town of 8, released his photo and a warning that he poses a high risk of re-offending. He had been convicted of 42 offences, including sexual and violent attacks against boys as young as nine. He then asked the courts to be moved out of town, and on Tuesday the RCMP escorted him to a halfway house in Kamloops, 70 kilometres away. During a media interview in Merritt on Tuesday, before Caza left town, a driver passing by shouted threats at the recently released sex offender. I got sons and I got friends with sons.
We're on you. Caza denies he is a dangerous sexual offender, and blames the media for putting his life at risk in Merritt.
But Merritt's mayor has no sympathy for Caza. Laird says a longtime sexual offender who has refused to go through counselling should never have been released from prison. Fran Bethel says police are taking the unusual step of notifying the public because Caza refused treatment while in prison.
Caza is an untreated sex offender who is believed to be at high risk to re-offend. Caza was residing, so they could be more vigilant if they saw Mr. Caza around the community. Caza remains on probation with conditions to stay away from children or anywhere they might gather. Get out,' B. Canada 'You have no rights.
